These international partnerships allow Irish patients to receive faster access to surgery with no compromise on quality, safety, or continuity of care. All follow up is supported locally through Medinet Ireland.

Endometriosis

What it is:
Endometriosis is a condition where tissue like the uterus lining grows outside the womb. It can cause severe pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, or fertility difficulties.

Surgical Options:

  • Diagnostic Laparoscopy – Used to confirm diagnosis.
  • Laparoscopic Excision or Ablation – Removal or destruction of endometriosis lesions.
  • Removal of Endometriomas – Surgical treatment of endometriosis related ovarian cysts.

Hysterectomy

What is it:
Removal of the uterus, recommended for persistent pain, fibroids, abnormal bleeding, or other complex conditions.

Types:

  • Total Hysterectomy
  • Partial / Subtotal Hysterectomy
  • LAVH (Laparoscopic Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy)
  • Vaginal Hysterectomy

Uterine Fibroids

What are they:
Non cancerous tumours in the uterus that cause heavy bleeding, pain, or pressure.

Surgical Options:

  • Hysteroscopic Myomectomy – Removal of fibroids inside the womb via hysteroscopy.
  • Laparoscopic or Open Myomectomy – Surgical removal of fibroids while preserving the uterus.
  • Hysterectomy – In severe cases.

Ovarian Cysts

What are they:
Fluid filled sacs that can cause pain, bleeding, or complications.

Surgical Options:

  • Laparoscopic Cystectomy – Removal of cysts while preserving the ovary.
  • Oophorectomy – Removal of the ovary (if required).

Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (AUB)

What is it:
Irregular, heavy, or prolonged menstrual bleeding.

Surgical Options:

  • Diagnostic/Operative Hysteroscopy – Removal of polyps or small fibroids.
  • Endometrial Ablation – Treatment to reduce heavy bleeding.

Pre Cancerous Cervical, Vulval, or Uterine Changes

Conditions include:
CIN, VIN, or dyskaryosis requiring surgical intervention.

Surgical Options:

  • LLETZ/LEEP
  • Cone Biopsy

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

What is it:
Weakening of pelvic floor supports causing organs to descend into the vagina.

Surgical Options:

  • Anterior/Posterior Vaginal Repair
  • Sacrospinous Fixation

PCOS Related Surgical Options

What is it:
PCOS sometimes requires surgical intervention for fertility or cyst related complications.

Surgical Options:

  • Laparoscopic Ovarian Drilling

Who is eligible from ROI?

You can apply if you:

  • Are ordinarily resident in Ireland
  • Are entitled to public healthcare
  • Have a GP or consultant referral 
  • Require a treatment that is publicly available in Ireland (e.g., hip or knee replacement)
  • Have a G-HIC/E-HIC and an in date valid passport.

Who is eligible from NI?

You can apply if you:

  • Are an ordinary resident of NI and entitled to the full range of HSC services.
  • Have been diagnosed by an HSC Trust consultant.
  • Have been on the HSCNI surgery waiting list for ≥1years.
  • Your surgery is one commissioned by DoH for their diagnosis and would have received within HSC under the same clinical circumstances.
  • Will pay for the surgery themselves THEN reclaim costs from DoH.
  • Have NOT sought any other source of reimbursement.
